This time it’s all about the eights: At 8:08 p.m., Pacific time, on Aug. 8 (8/8/08), the band will play — what else — “88BoaDrum” with 88 drummers at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. The same day, the band Gang Gang Dance will lead a version of the piece on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn at 8:08 p.m., Eastern time ... The New York Festival of Song has announced its 2008-09 season. The program opens Sept. 23 with a celebration of Leonard Bernstein and William Bolcom at the newly renovated Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center ... Stockard Channing and Martha Plimpton have joined the cast of the Roundabout Theater Company’s production of “Pal Joey” ... Gwen Stewart will return to “Rent.” The actress, who played several roles in the original musical, will reprise those roles starting on July 21 and through the show’s Broadway closing on Sept. 7.
